Affectionately known as Mr. Theo, Theophilus is a seasoned educator with over 23 years of experience in teaching and international education. He holds degrees in Biology, Environmental Science, Public Health, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from universities in Ghana and the UK.
Theo has taught both the Cambridge and IB curriculums across international schools and has served as an IB Assistant Examiner for over a decade. As Director of GHIBTA, he champions diversity and inclusion in international education, providing resources, networking opportunities, and a platform for black teachers of African descent. A bachelor degree in any subject qualifies you to join mentorship.
No. A BSc, BA as well as a BEd are all acceptable. If you are considering the Middle East however, you need a teaching degree (BEd, PGCE, PGDE, MEd, DEd.)
No. Our mentorship fee is a one time payment. You stay in mentorship until you get a job!
Most schools will not hire teachers that are 57 years old. There are exceptions for those applying as principals. Japan is also open to older folks.
No. TEFL is an English Language teaching certificate and not mandatory for international teaching. It is however mandatory for language teachers looking at Japan.
All the fingers are not equal. We have gotten teachers hired 3 weeks after joining, 1 month after joining, 2 months, and some 1 year.
GHIBTA does not promise jobs. International schools are competitive and you must pass school interviews to get hired. Guarantee is 100% if you nail interviews and 0% if you fail interviews.
Most of our teachers sign an initial 2 year contract. This will be renewed every year. As long as you do your work, you can stay in a school indefinitely.
Most of the schools we work with provide end of service benefits to teachers who are leaving. It can be quite generous.
